The Submonitor is the the ideal bass complement to the Admonitor
and the Admonitor Preference.
The Submonitor
is the ideal low frequency complement to the Admonitor and the
Admonitor Preference.
Rather than
being a “generic” subwoofer, the Submonitor has been
designed to blend seamlessly in the acoustic performance of the
Admonitor and Admonitor Preference, transforming these mini-monitors
in to full scale reference 3 way systems. The transition between
upper and lower module has been designed in such a way as to increase
naturally the radiating surface to the lowest frequencies The
objective was not simply to have "more bass" but to
have all the subjective advantages that the best reproduction
of the quasi-infrasonic spectrum can bring ; more complete tonal
accuracy ; better "hall" and ambience perception ; higher
dynamic headroom and ease on crescendos .
The special
165 mm X 230 mm , oval "race-track" woofer (and its
passive companion) , optimise the specific piston surface versus
physical impact of the Submonitor . The technical driver parameters
allow a surprisingly extended low frequency reach, even if performance
has been subjectively adjusted for optimal pace and ease of drive.
The EARR loading
system , "Enhanced Auxiliary Radiator Reflex" combines
both a passive radiator and a traditional port in the same enclosure
, to extract the best low frequency extension in compact enclosures.
This system, originally analysed by L. Simeonov, is a brilliant
solution, only very seldom seen in commercial products.
The mechanical
coupling, or better de-coupling , between upper and lower module,
is done by a magnetic levitation / polymer visco-elastic system
. The magnetic repulsive forces avoid any direct mechanical contact,
so the only effective interface is represented by the air in the
closed cells of the high-loss elastic damped polymer. The magnitude
of low frequency intermodulation of the upper spectrum is substantially
reduced, compared to "monoblock" solutions , the upper
module magnetically "hovering" on air bubbles .
Due to the
complexity of low frequency room interactions, for optimisation
purposes , it is possible to interface the Admonitor and Admonitor
Preference in different ways to the Submonitor :
- Using
the upper modules with the internal crossover (high pass) of
the Submonitor
- Using the upper modules in "Bi-Wiring" fashion
- Using the upper and lower modules in passive "Bi-Amping"
- Using the upper and lower modules in active "Bi-Amping"
, with a low level passive crossover ( soon to be released )
